Random Reddit comment I found reading about an only relatively related topic.
"Humans notice patterns. Or rather, it would be more accurate to say that humans look for patterns. In everything. Clouds look like animals. Religious icons on our toast. We go car shopping and notice the model we've been looking at appears everywhere. Humans are always trying to find order in randomness - mostly because we can't comprehend probability.
Here's the thing: We forget that the car we've been looking at has been increasing in popularity and advertising for years. We don't notice all the clouds that don't look like animals, or the times we get toast with no religious affiliation whatsoever. Humans seek out patterns, and when we can't find them, our brain makes them up. Apophenia. Observational selection bias."
You know what apophenia was linked to? Schizophrenia. And I hope you'd agree with me that's not what you want to base your behavior on.
This has long been beyond personal matters. If I could help a stranger, I would. If it's someone more important than that, I probably should.
Also I have been forced to remember some personality traits I have that I rarely see so I had forgotten about them lol. I think I've made a lot of progress towards being a better person. I'm concerned about the circumstances of that revelation though 🥀 Things seem to be going bad even if I'm trying to convince everyone otherwise. But for better or for worse there is still hope; the yang is still in yin. Maybe I should get back to Paper Bride
I’ve always told you that I’ve thought everything happens for a reason. If there is a God, nothing truly is left up to chance.
ReplyDeleteIf you think what happened to me at the psych ward was attributed to me making patterns out of things and the things I saw at church, then I don’t know what to say.
Also, I don’t know if you’re helping or if you’re invaliding me. Either way, yeah, I agree. I probably shouldn’t look into things so much. I just think it’s too huge of a coincidence for it to be brushed off so easily.
At least there’s some objective things in life still I can cling onto then.
And I’m glad you’re working on yourself. That makes me happy to hear.
DeletePaper bride ! Yes !
Also, with that line of thinking, you can just dismiss God entirely. Religious beliefs are just apophenia according to you.
ReplyDeleteI spent so much time researching and really being conscious on whether the word of God is really infallible. It all boils down to what we think of Jesus. It is a scientific fact that he lived and died, but what exactly did he do? Did he really rise up and beat death or was a blasphemer? If it’s the former, the Bible is true and this beats your apophenia allegations -at least to some extent because I don’t think I’m entirely saved from my own confirmation bias.
Either way, I lean towards that he did rise up after 3 days. The evidence is overwhelming logical in every way. So, I can’t agree with you fully on this one.
“ For example, a person might see a face in a cloud and believe it carries special meaning. That’s an instance of apophenia—perceiving patterns where none truly exist. But when it comes to Scripture, prophecy, and the works of Christ, we’re dealing with something entirely different. These are not random perceptions, but historical and theological realities grounded in the Word of God and confirmed by eyewitness testimony.
ReplyDeleteScripture itself reminds us to practice discernment, warning that “Satan masquerades as an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14), and that “not every spirit” or apparent sign is from God (1 John 4:1). True faith distinguishes between divine revelation and deception, anchoring understanding in the truth of God’s Word rather than in false patterns or spiritual counterfeits.”
Better than anything I could have said. Also, I’m not saying that it’s not real. Apophenia is very real but it does not take into account to what Jesus did. Anything outside of the Bible and you’re playing a risky game. 🫑
I can’t believe I never showed you my “respect the spectrum brah “ oversized t shirt. It’s one of my most prized possessions🥀
ReplyDeleteBrah I hate this game I hate Roblox rhythm game
ReplyDeleteEverything reminds me of you, I can’t even play the songs I want to play. I really do miss you. I hope you’re doing well like always. I hate being this depressed all the time because I don’t have the energy to talk to others. I can do my own things and be on my own but I find it difficult to make meaningful connections now. I also cut my bangs horrendously. And painted all my nails black and am wearing silver earrings and silver rings. Everyone needs to know I’m emo !
